Get a Nevada Fishing License be Entered to Win
In the age of ever-present mobile apps, fishing is one of those activities that connects people to the outside world and also brings families together in real life.
To make people aware of the many underutilized fishing opportunities available in every corner of the state, NDOW has created a promotional program to entice Nevadans to buy a fishing license and get outside.
This week, Edwin sits down with Chris Vasey, conservation education chief and Aaron Keller, outdoor educator for NDOW, to talk about the promotion.
Anyone who purchases a 2017 fishing or combination license between Feb. 1 and June 15 will be automatically entered to win recreation-themed prizes, including a three day houseboat rental at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, sponsored by Forever Resorts.
“Fishing brings people together,” said Tony Wasley, Director of NDOW. “So many Nevadans aren’t aware of the world-class fishing that is often just minutes from their communities. We’re here to spread the word about the many benefits of spending family time outside.”
Nevada has great fishing across the state that has been sadly underused in recent years, especially in Southern Nevada. The erroneous perception is of “low water” even though Lake Mead remains the largest manmade reservoir in the nation, and it’s teaming with oversized striped bass and a wide variety of other game fish. With a wet winter and aggressive stocking by NDOW, it’s a great time to renew your fishing license and take advantage of some of the best conditions in years.
“The Lake Mead National Recreation Area has great fishing, but we also have boats, swimming, restaurants and hiking,” said Bruce Rowe, director of marine services for Forever Resorts. “Getting a fishing license is the first step to amazing outdoor opportunities.”
In addition to the houseboat trip, prizes include rafting trips down the Colorado River and several half-day boat rentals. All prizes have been provided by Forever Resorts in connection with NDOW to bring attention to the wide array of fishing, boating and outdoor recreation available only minutes from Nevada’s largest communities. Nevadans who buy a resident combination or fishing license are automatically entered, and the drawing will take place at NDOW on June 16, just a week after Free Fishing Day.
