Bat Week – Bats of Southern Nevada

Nevada is home to 23 species of bats, with some more commonly encountered than others. The Big Free-tailed Bat, Western Mastiff Bat and the Mexican Long-tongued Bat can all be found in southern Nevada.

  • Big Free-tailed Bats eat a lot of insects, primarily moth species.
  • Western Mastiff Bats are Nevada’s and North America’s largest bat species.
  • Mexican Long-tongued Bats eat pollen and fruit juices and are responsible in part, to pollinating several cacti and agave species.
